Frontier labs
8Full-stack players: their own frontier models, a consumer assistant, agents, coding tools and a developer platform.
The enterprise and coding-agent leader. Valued near $1T in May; IPO prospectus leaked at ~$2T, and investors now expect ~$1.5T for a November listing.
The largest consumer AI footprint. Reportedly raising at ~$1.4T with its IPO pushed to 2027. ChatGPT runs as Chat, Work and Codex modes on every plan.
The broadest distribution: Search, Android, Chrome and Workspace. Gemini 4 Argon (30 Sep) is the new flagship generation; the Gemini app has 1B+ monthly users.
Part of SpaceX; reported to be renaming again, from SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI †. Owns X and Cursor. Grok Bot now routes some tasks to other companies' models.
Moved from open Llama to closed Muse models. The Muse agent topped the app charts (2M+ daily users) despite a run of privacy and security problems.
AI across Windows, Microsoft 365, GitHub and Azure. One business-first Copilot app since 25 Sep. Multi-model: reportedly paying Anthropic $2B+ a year for Copilot.
AWS is the enterprise model marketplace. Bedrock hosts Claude and most leading open models next to Amazon's own Nova models.
Late but huge distribution. The rebuilt Siri in iOS 27 runs on Apple's own models plus a custom Google Gemini.

Grouped by what the product does.
Open-weight and challenger labs 20
Models you can download and run yourself, plus well-funded challengers. China now holds most of the top open-weight spots.
New research labs 8
Heavily funded labs, mostly pre-product, led by famous researchers. Many bet on world models, reinforcement learning or physical AI rather than bigger chatbots.
Coding agents and AI IDEs 19
Tools that write, test and ship software. This is the most competitive and highest-revenue agent category.
App builders (vibe coding) 11
Describe an app or site and get it built and hosted, without writing code.
Personal and computer-use agents 21
Agents that operate a browser or computer and act on your behalf. Crowded: TechCrunch counted about 22 personal agents that live in text messages (Oct). Listed here: those with major funding, distribution or a new approach. Also watching: Dazzle (works from your camera roll), Persona, Tomo.
Agent platforms and enterprise agents 23
Frameworks for building agents, automation platforms, and vertical agents sold to companies.
Search, productivity and consumer 16
Answer engines, knowledge-work tools, meeting notes and companion apps.
Creative and media 17
Image, video, voice and music generation.
Distribution, hosting and standards 15
Where models are found, hosted and connected, and the open protocols agents use to talk to tools and each other.
